10月23日から10月25日にイタリアのフィレンツェで開催された国際微生物学協会連合 (International Union of Microbiological Societies：IUMS2024) と10月28日から10月30日にフランス、パリのパスツール研究所で開催された日仏シンポジウム(France-Japan symposium on HIV/AIDS & Infectious diseases basic and translational research)に参加しました。
IUM2024は私にとって実に13年ぶりの参加となりました。自身が専門としているウイルス学だけでなく、細菌学や (真) 菌学など、微生物全般に関する講演もあり、これまでとは違った視点で微生物学を学ぶことができ有益な時間を過ごしました。
日仏シンポジウムは今回で3回目の開催になりますが、初めての参加となりました。発表を済ませたあと、今回の一番の目的であるAPOBECファミリータンパク質の研究で有名な、Jean-Pierre Vartanian博士と面会することができました。研究室も案内していただき、面談の目的である共同研究についても、検討することで合意しました。これからどういう展開になるのか、非常に楽しみです。 (池田）
I attended the International Union of Microbiological Societies (IUMS2024) in Florence, Italy, from October 23 to October 25, and the France-Japanese Symposium (France-Japan symposium on HIV/AIDS & Infectious diseases basic and translational research) at the Institute Pasteur in Paris, France, from October 28 to October 30.
This was my first time in 13 years to participate in the IUM2024. I had various lectures about not only virology which is my specialty, but microorganisms such as bacteriology and mycology. I had a valuable time learning about microbiology from a different perspective.
It was my first time to join the Franco-Japan Symposium even though it has been held three times. After my presentation, I met with Dr. Jean-Pierre Vartanian, who is famous for his research on APOBEC family proteins. This was one of the main purposes of my trip. He showed me around the laboratory, and we agreed to consider collaboration on the research. I’m so excited to see whatwill happen next with our joint research. (Ikeda)
